Annual General Meeting

The Big Idea consists of many small actions and decisions undertaken by members of the team” /K.Grint/

Ncise Derbyshire Annual General meeting took place on the 25th of November 2009.

he focus of the meeting was to adopt amendments to the Constitution, summarise 2008-2009 activities and ncise Derbyshire strategic development direction.

Coco Kambala, Secretary explained the amendments to the Constitution that were made in order to make ncise Derbyshire more independent from the Regional Executive Committee and make it accountable to its members only.

Ferid Kevric, Chair, introduced ncise Derbyshire 2008-2009 Activity Report which is now available on our website.

Ilona Navickiene, Development Worker, explained why people migrate, drew lines between global and local context of development and highlighted the paradox of the situation; people leave their countries trying to escape marginalisation and exclusion having great aspirations for a better life but when they reach their dream country, they fall in the same trap again. They become excluded groups that have no local knowledge or skills, which then deprives them of any opportunities that are available. This becomes a major obstacle to realise their potential and prevents them from becoming a valuable member of hosting community.

Ilona highlighted the advantages of serving community needs through social enterprise activities. She discussed the risks involved in common ownership if moral values are not adopted from the initial stage of development. Two month activities and findings were reported and strategic development direction for ncise Derbyshire was presented emphasising importance of vision and values. Very positive reaction was received from all participants and good discussions took place.
