NCISE stalls in the Market Square Nottingham
It has been a busy two weeks for NCISE Nottinghamshire, with our members taking part in two high profile city centre events.
Sunday 14th June saw the Sudanese Society in Nottingham, Heri Kwetu, AWIND and NAWEF taking their social enterprises to Nottingham Market Square for the One City One World festival, which was also the launch for this year’s Refugee Week. NCISE provided the groups with marketing training, personalised support to help prepare for the events and a small grant to invest in equipment and stock.
We were blessed with beautiful weather and an excellent turnout on the day, which meant that the groups had a captive audience to whom to sell their wares and also raise awareness about their work in the community.
On Saturday 20th June four NCISE groups took part in the Central Library Family Event at Angel Row Gallery. The Refugee Forum Women’s Group and the Angolan Cultural Group provided entertainment and the Arabic Association and Congolese Community were commissioned by the Library to provide the catering.
We received plenty of positive feedback about both events:
The NCISE stalls in the Market Square during the One World Festival / Refugee Week Launch were colourful, bright and busy and attracted a lot of interest from the public. They complemented the range of stalls participating on the day and added considerably to the profile of the event. Equally, the catering that was provided for the Family Fun Day at the Central Library was of an extremely high quality and absolutely delicious.

Refugee Forum Women’s Group
Nottingham African Women’s Empowerment Forum sold handmade cushions, bags and T-shirts made here in Nottingham by the refugee women themselves.
The Sudanese Society in Nottingham sold a vast and beautiful array of traditional textiles, herbs, jewellery and tableware as well as books about Sudan.
Heri Kwetu had a very successful day’s trading, selling a range of traditional handicrafts from West Africa and really getting into the spirit of the event.
The African Women’s Initiative of Nationwide Development sold top quality Nigerian outfits for men, women and children.
NCISE Nottinghamshire also took the opportunity to recruit new members and engage with partners.
We would like to thank all the volunteers who helped with the event, the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Refugee Forum for co-ordinating the Refugee Week steering group and Nottingham City Council for sponsoring the stalls.
